The role of a liber education is to create men and women with character, skills, and knowledge who are willing - and are overwhelmingly capable - of restoring the principled standards of what this nation was established to represent; mainly, the God given mandate to rightfully have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Men and women of such wisdom stand on the shoulders of giants, understand history and what it means to learn from the past, they are skilled in rhetoric, are able to defend their constitutional rights because they are well versed in the language of liberty. There is a price paid to obtain such greatness; it takes diligence and a tenacious spirit to be educated in the liberal arts.

1. Will's sister is getting sealed to her husband.
2. I knew Rosanna fell asleep in the car when she stopped signing at the top of her little lungs. 3. I forgot my recommend to go the sealing at the temple. The temple recorder was able to access my records to verify I had a recommend. Then they called my bishop or stake leader to verify that it was active. The recorder came to the waiting room to find me (I knew his children, so that was fun) and then used his recommend to get me in. It reminded me of the Savior. He can take what's wrong and make it right. Perfectly right. 4. Greg was going to do some baptisms for the dead for the first time. It didn't work out - the wait was too long, but it was so great being inside the temple with him. I am so thankful for that experience!! 5. Greg and Madilyn watched Levi on the temple grounds so that we didn't have to leave him so long at a babysitter's house 45 minutes away. What great kids! 6. Thanks to one of my best buddies, Krista D. for watching my other four kiddos! They always have so much fun with her! She inspires me to be a fun mom! 1. Rosanna fell asleep repeating a scripture...mid sentence. So funny!
1. Levi had a fever last night. He still has a fever and isn't looking well this morning. I'm confident this is a response to his DTap immunizations.
2. Rosie also had a fever this morning. She wrapped her arm around Levi while they took a nap. She is so sweet. 3. Madilyn has been studying in Preach My Gospel and reading the associated scriptures for at least an hour each day starting on Sunday. I invited them to study a few headings so we could discuss and prepare for baptism (although the three older have already been baptized). She is going strong. What an example she is to me! 4. I'm amazed that William is so faithful in his duty to our family to take the garbage out, he never complains and most times does it without being asked. He knows it's Tuesday (or Friday) and will wake up early, gather the garbages, and take them all to the curb. We used to call him Templeton from Charlottes Web because he would find treasures in the trash and want to keep them. So cute. Although he doesn't do that any more, he is still stunningly creative when it comes to repurposing almost anything. 5. Greg spent the majority of the day thinking about, planning, and prepping a garden. It is impressive the work he does when he is internally inspired. I know if it were my idea and I was telling him what to do next, he would have burnt out long before he did. He even had all the kids in the backyard leveling the garden spot. He took into account what veggies we wanted to harvest, how much sunlight was required, the planting season, how many seeds were needed, and companion planting. I loved seeing his orderly way of going about it. It reminded me of Will. 6. William came in this evening to tell me Emma Leigh had a sucker in her mouth while she was sleeping. I know it wasn't there when I put her to bed. That silly girl is so sneaky when it comes to sugar. Earlier today, I found the candy jar full of wrappers. Haha. I'm sure it was Emma Leigh's doing. I am also sure she shared with Rosanna. Nothing like having a partner in crime. Haha. 6.5 William stitched a oil holder for one of my oils. Smile. He also stitched an outfit for Madilyn's little fox; it even had buttons on it. 7. While Will took he kids to Home Depot, Rosie and I played with kinetic sand. It was so fun playing with her one on one... It doesn't happen nearly enough; she's Emma Leigh's little side kick and rarely does anything alone. The dishes are still in the sink, but I'm glad I took the opportunity to make a memory with her. 8. After helping her get ready for bed (she almost has 2 Nephi 2:25 memorized!), I asked her if she wanted me to rock her, sing to her, or scratch her back - I got a no each time. Then I asked if she wanted me to read to her. "Yes!!" I read her Fables until she fell asleep. I love that book - it's one of the few storybooks we have. I love that she loves books. Sometimes she throws a fit if I don't read to her at bedtime - even if she is half awake. Cracks me up. 9. I have two bottles that have tinctures in them. One says MIN and the other says Super C otherwise they are identical. It's been a good six months when I realized that Rosie could tell the difference. I love that she is into details. 10. Dad and LeAnne picked up Mom's desk. It is just too big for the room we have it in and we don't have anywhere else to put it. I'm glad Dad's taking it. No one else in the family wanted it/had room for it and I didn't want the desk that had so many memories and emotions attached to it to be sent to Deseret Industries. It is the desk Mom used at AccuWood....the last place she was before she took her life. So many tears and sweat were poured out over that desk. It was difficult to give up....I'm sentimental like that. 1. This morning the kids are complaining that the majority of the kids at church talk about video games during the lessons, including during the prayer. The talk, Things As They Really Are by David A Bednar, had a huge influence on my decision to not allow video games to influence our home environment... and my kids are grateful for it!
2. Levi had his checkup today. I was soo happy his ears have cleared up!! Doctor G allowed me to do my natural stuff (she wanted to start him on another round of antibiotics on Wednesday) and it worked! She didn't recommend antibiotics. Yay!! 3. Had five of the kiddos get immunizations today... ugh. 4. We went to our awesome neighbors house this evening. I'm inspired to start a garden, decorate our house, and eat healthier. 1. When I got home from visiting teaching, a few of the kids came running to the door to greet me. As soon as Levi saw me, he came racing in his walker with his arms stretched up. Love it!
1. Levi waved his hand when Will left this morning to go to work. Everyone waits on the curb and waves when Will is about to turn the corner - our very last chance to see Dad before he goes to work. When the weather is nice, they all run down to the corner to see him off. I love watching them run back to me while I wait in front of the house with arms outstretched. What a great way to start my morning! Every time, it reminds me of waiting in heaven for them to join me, running with arms wide open.
2. Emma Leigh turned five today! Will and I took her to Egg Works. She wanted pancakes and whipped cream for lunch. 3. Bella read, "BEEF" as she was helping to prepare the ground beef for tin foil dinners tonight. I'm amazed that the approach we take to reading works. It worked with William and I am started to see the fruits of it working with Bella. The kids hear scripture masteries quoted daily and therefore memorize them - whether they mean to or not. When they are ready to read, we help them find those verses in their Book of Mormon and teach them to point to the words as they say the words they have memorized. Our brains are amazing and can detect patterns in the written word. So cool! 4. Started to feel a clogged duct in my breast. Put on a compress of MP (Mastitis Pack) herbs. Dabbed with Antibiotic Formula when I didn't have time to heat a compress. 5. I'm usually the last one awake, but tonight, Will stayed up watching a movie and doing the dishes! He knows how exhausted I've been, burning the candle at both ends trying to get Levi healthy; it is a full time job trying to get one healthy naturally. I wanted to stay home from the Relief Society meeting tonight so I could prepare the house for the Sabbath day. I am so glad he convinced me to go and then lifted my burden so I could go to bed early. I love my man! 1. Very early this morning, I thought I was headed to the ER for Levi. His labored breathing scared me; his nose was clogged and the barking cough left no doubt that his throat was dry and there was rattling sound in his lungs. Before I left, I nursed him in a steaming hot shower (so he would breath in all the steam and help clear the nasal passage). After the shower and the foot zone, I felt more confident that he was going to be okay. Here some other things I've done or considered doing to help him overcome this congestion and ear infection. (As you may have read, Sunday was his last dose of Amoxicillan - and he is still sick. I hated giving him an antibiotic and I hate the idea of doing it again just a few days after the first failure.) These are listed for my personal benefit and for record keeping purposes.
2. Greg pointed out twice today I didn't heed the promptings of the spirit: not taking Levi outside to breath in some cold air, and I thought there was something left in the bottom of the cart at Walmart - I did a quick look and checked out. When we were unloading the cart, I found the shampoo and had to go back to buy it. :/ 3. Greg got a chip in his tooth; he and William were fighting. 4. Madilyn shared what she learned about space while we were eating dinner. She is such a motivated lady. 5. Madilyn and William surprised me by loading the dishwasher, cleaning the table, sweeping and moping the kitchen and family room. They were hoping they could move all the beds into the boys room so we could paint the other rooms. It was so helpful having the dishes in the dishwasher; I guess because it was less overwhelming ?? Washing dishes went quickly this morning. 6. The Jeep's battery is dead, so Will had a coworker take him to work and bring him home so we could use the van to take Levi to his appointment. 1. Will took the four older kids to see the new Star Wars movie. This was a rare event. Bella may not have any recollection of ever going to the movie theater.
2. The three itty bitty's and I watched a slideshow of family pictures - my idea of a great time :) 3. Today was our first day of studying the missionary way - personal study for an hour in the morning followed by family study. It was a success - for the most part. I had a few distractions: on the phone with Will about a trip to Boise, on the phone with Papa to see if he can watch the kids while we go to Boise, and a few poopie diapers. The Little Tykes stayed in their rooms quietly studying while I was with the Itty Bittys downstairs. I read about the arctic with them and then read a little in Jesus the Christ. My love for my Savior grows whenever I read from that book. While I was away changing Levi's diaper, I told Greg to lead the family study discussion. They took turns sharing what they learned during personal study. I was trying to inspire them to focus on feasting on their scriptures during personal study time. Madilyn already has a working system, so she studied about the planets. Greg read his scriptures and handwrote notes about what he read. William read about reflex points on your knees. Some of them shared the notes they took, others just talked about it. I was listening at the top of the stairs amazed that they were actually doing it! I love my kids! 4. In private, Greg told me he was real impressed with what William shared. He said it was like he was a teacher. Smile. 5. I am really struggling with trying to make a decision. I have a hard time deciding anything and this one is a biggie. To move or not to move, that is the question. 6. William did over 200 jumping jacks when I told them to do 20. He has a great capacity for endurance. 7. It's been a few days, but Levi's bottom right tooth finally poked through. The bottom left and two top middle all came about the same time a month or so ago. This little guy was taking forever. If I remember correctly (don't hold me to it), all the other kids had both bottom teeth come in before the tops. Interesting. 8. Levi still seems off. He had three or four poopie diapers today and he sounds congested. He needs a zone. 9. It's times like this that I really wish I had a dishwasher...and someone to load it for me. I have 7 dishwashers, but every single one of them is sleeping. Haha. In truth, I am usually the one (and only) who washes the dishes (the kids rinse, dry and put away). I find it is a good time to ponder especially if the kids are sleeping... and I get a bit OCD about bacteria. I just wish I could stay on top of it so that there wasn't a mountain of dishes that need to be washed, and nothing that can be used without being washed. I prefer not having a dishwasher and would love in it's place an industrial three basin sink. Dishwashers are noisy (I have a low tolerance for constant noise), and they take forever and I think handwashing teaches hard work and self reliance and when you live in the city, you have to invent things to do to teach hard work. Yet there is something about a clean kitchen that is invigorating - perhaps moreso after you've put in the hard work to get it done... and perhaps not. 10. I was reminded by our neighbor about an incident with that neighbor. I'm glad we can all laugh about it now. I was super embarrassed by my unChristlike behavior over a silly security sign. |
